Thanks to comments made over at TenTonHammer’ podcast, Lord of the Rings Online Producer Kate Paiz released information about just how lucrative the Free-to-play conversion of the Tolkien-based MMO has been for Turbine.

Apparently, since opening up the game to anyone in September the company has turned three times the profits it was experiencing earlier.

The game’s conversion, following in the success of its sister title – Dungeons & Dragons online led to a 20% return rate for lapsed subscribers as well as an amazing 300% increase in concurrent users on the games’ servers.

The game now claims to have over 1 million user accounts, which is pretty impressive when you compare it with the typical MMO offerings on the market (World of Warcraft excluded – it’s a statistical anomaly).
