Posted on August 9, 2010, Ron Whitaker Ubisoft Toronto to Develop 5 Simultaneous AAA Titles
If you want to break into the video game industry, and you live in Toronto, maybe you should apply at Ubisoft Toronto. According to Managing Director Jade Raymond, the studio will be undergoing some serious expansion in the future.
“We want to grow to 800 staff in ten years, we’re on two major projects now, and eventually we’ll be working on five,” says Raymond. She didn’t give specifics on the two projects they are working on, but it’s an open secret that the next Splinter Cell game is in development there. I’d imagine the second game they have on hand right now is a piece of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, which is being developed at five separate Ubi studios.
Ubi’s commitment to Toronto has netted them a deal with the local government that includes the investment of a quarter of a billion Canadian dollars.
Says Raymond, “The bottom line is the way we are developing games today is changing,” and it’s true. I can’t recall one studio aiming to produce five triple A titles at once anytime before.
