Ubisoft got me.

Back when the studio revealed the first trailer (above) for its upcoming open-world shooter at E3, Tom Clancy’s The Division, I was sure I was seeing a CGI cutscene of New York. It looked great, seeing the camera float through the vacant streets of the iconic city, but I wanted to know what the actual game looked like. Then the floating camera stopped behind a soldier, and the gameplay began.


It’s all being made using Ubisoft’s new Snowdrop Engine, and the latest trailer below details what the technology delivers. Of note: the way in which surfaces accurately reflect damage is really impressive, and the overall level of detail is off the charts. And if you were curious, Snowdrop uses Havok Physics for collision detection and physical simulation tech.

Looking forward to diving into this detailed world when The Division drops in late 2014.
