Earlier this month, Epic revealed that a new Unreal Tournament was in the works. Today, we’re already able to see a very basic form of a deathmatch as the development team squares off against one another using the only visible weapon (most likely only weapon so far), the beloved shock rifle.
What’s interesting is how far along they already are in terms of development. They just announced the new Unreal Tournament at the beginning of the month, so it’s remarkable that they already have the code to play against each other in multi-player. It shows just how fast they’re moving along in the making of this title and also a hint of how easy it could possibly be to use the UE4 engine that this new UT will be powered on. Of course, they still have a ways to go before it is even considered an alpha. They still have other weapons to add and balance and creation of the maps themselves. So it’s easy to understand why they stated in the twitch.tv interview that Deathmatch will be the only mode available upon release.
At this pace, should they decide to do it, we could probably expect an early access launch around the holiday season (hopefully!). I, for one, cannot wait for this to be released and for them to bring back my baby, the flak cannon. It looks like they’re trying to bring back the style and pace of the original Unreal Tournament (UT99 for you new players) and if that’s the case, it’s going to be one hell of a fun time.
