Not satisfied with hoarding all of the gaming industry’s mad scientists, Valve Corporation has begun indoctrinating the next generation of lovable braniacs with the introduction of Teach With Portals, a “free educational collection of puzzles and teacher-created content” based on Portal 2.
Teach With Portals comes with the The Portal 2 Puzzle Maker, a 3D game design tool that allows people to create puzzles, or levels, for Portal 2. It’s made available through STEAM For SCHOOLS, Valve’s version of the PC gaming service made specifically for educators and students (did you know this existed? I sure didn’t.) STEAM for SCHOOLS is provided free to educators along with some games and educational content.
Here’s a video made from the recent visit of students from The Evergreen School to Valve HQ to look at Teach With portals close up.
Frankly, I wish Valve would stop doing stuff like this. I don’t want to fall in love with Billionaire Gabe Newell if I can possibly avoid it. But they’re not making it easy.
