Posted on June 15, 2011, Phil Owen Valve is Holding a Music Video Contest

Well, this is kinda weird.

The National’s “Exile Villify” was featured as an easter egg in Portal 2, and was in fact written for the game, and now Valve is holding a contest to see who can make the best music video for it. Where this seems weird is that the video doesn’t need to be Portal-related — the contest announcement says contestants can use “whatever visuals they choose” to make the video. The contest runs through July 15, actually, so you’ll even have time to actually put together a proper music video if you so choose.

To make a submission, you’ll need to upload the video to YouTube with the tag “PORTAL2NATIONALEXILE.” The winner, which will apparently be chosen by everyone (“Valve, The National, and the community”), will receive a guitar signed by the band, some Portal 2 merch and presumably no royalties.
