Apparently, Valve head honcho Gabe Newell and Half-Life writer Mark Laidlaw weren’t clear enough when they said earlier this month that there was no Valve alternate reality game going on right now and therefore there are no clues about Half-Life 3 hidden inside the Internet. But despite that very clear and obvious statement, ravenous Half-Life fans keep scouring the Internet for hidden clues.

Valve writer Chet Faliszek went so far as to say the Half-Life community is “trolling itself” by continuing to spread rumors that there are messages hidden in the video of Wheatley from Portal 2 that was played at the 2011 VGAs earlier this month. “There is no ARG. Wheatley’s speech was set in Portal 2 fiction – that is all,” he said in a post on the official Steam forums.

“I just want to say this so there is no confusion,” Faliszek wrote. “This is the community trolling the community nothing more. While it is nice to see people excited about anything [Half-Life-related], I hate seeing people be trolled like this.”

There you go, then. Stop analyzing frames of video…now.
