Posted on March 14, 2014, Ron Whitaker Valve Shows Off New Steam Controller Design
The newest version of the Steam Controller will sport two diamond-shaped clusters of buttons in addition to the touch pads seen on the original prototypes.
In a short release, Valve showed off the newest version of the Steam Controller, seen in the image above. It’s a step toward a more recognizable button configuration for Valve, and most likely a pretty good move. According to the release, the newest version of the controller, “refines ergonomic aspects of the Controller by adding two diamond-patterned button layouts in the area previously designated for a touch screen display.” We’ve posted the original version below for comparison.
This controller update was first announced during Steam Dev Days, held in February at Valve’s Seattle HQ. Stay tuned for a full hands-on report from GDC next week.
