Sony has announced at Gamescom today that the PlayStation Vita and its memory cards will be seeing a major price drop.

The PlayStation Vita will now cost $199 USD and 199 Euro, in North America and Europe, respectively.

This is great news for anyone hoping to pick up a PS Vita ahead of the release of the PlayStation 4, as the handheld console will be fully compatible with “most” games on the PS4 to use as a secondary gaming device not unlike the Wii U’s gaming tablet.

The reduction in price, and the many game announcements for the PS Vita should make it a much more attractive peripheral for gamers.
