Posted on November 20, 2012, Randy Nelson ‘VVVVVV’ Creator Launching Super Hexagon on Steam November 27
Terry Cavanagh, the brain behind darling indie platformer VVVVVV, is making a comeback on PC next week with his latest project, the fast-paced retro “anti-shooter” Super Hexagon. Originally designed as a Flash game called Hexagon, the title has already seen release on iPhone and iPad. The PC release will be available through Steam.
With its sharp geometric shapes and primary colors, Super Hexagon has you spinning a triangular ship around a central spoke as rotating walls close in from all sides. In order to survive, you have to pilot your triangle through gaps in the walls, which spin and approach faster the farther you progress. You can see some gameplay in the video below. Yes, it’s as challenging as it looks, but it’s one of those gaming experiences that looks impossible but puts you “in the zone” as you play, rewarding practice and quick reflexes.
If you’ve already played the iOS version, you pretty much know what to expect, although the PC release does promise a faster framerate. It’ll run $2.99 — possibly less if Kavanagh can work out a launch discount with Steam — and be available on November 27.
