Posted on October 12, 2011, David Moss Warhammer 40,000 Dark Millennium Online Slated for March of 2013
It looks like there’s still awhile to wait for Warhammer’s highly anticipated MMO. Assuming it doesn’t get pushed back, the game will be ready on March 13th 2013. The trailer for this one is actually looking really good. The one problem I have – and I know this is going to get a ton of backlash for this – is that the game looks too much like Wolrd of Warcraft.
Yes, I know the Warhammer universe was around before the first Warcraft game came out. Warhammer certainly isn’t copying any ideas from WoW, it’s just that the first thought that crossed my mind was: “this looks like WoW with mechs.” Honestly though, if this game looks like WoW but has vastly different gameplay I’ll be happy. I started playing Rift because it looked darker and much different than WoW, but it played pretty much the same. Warhammer Dark Millenium will prominently feature fire fights which is a drastic departure from anything WoW is doing, so I’m excited about that.
As for the plot, the official website has given some backstory:
“On the very edge of the galaxy lies the Sargos Sector. For centuries it was rendered uninhabitable and isolated by volatile Warp Storms. Even now, deep within the sector the very fabric of reality is unraveling. Only the ancient Sentinel Devices hold the Warp at bay.
But the ravages of time and meddling of humanity have weakened the Sentinel Devices-and now, the battle for these lost worlds is at hand. Drawn to the conflict, the great races of the galaxy descend upon the Sargos Sector, seeking to preserve reality-or to tear it asunder.
Side with the forces of Order, or the vile hosts of Destruction, in a war that will unlock ancient secrets, reveal dark purposes, and determine the fate of the Sargos Sector. For in this dark millennium, there is no peace amongst the stars, only war.”
Check out this trailer and decide for yourself if Dark Millennium will be the new king of MMOs.
