Posted on August 14, 2014, Jeff Mills Blizzard Drops New Draenor PvP, Pre-Event Details
While Gamescon goes on in Germany, Blizzard revealed more information about the upcoming World of Warcraft expansion, Warlords of Draenor, at a fan event in Los Angeles.
In the interview with Blizzard that was sponsored by Gamespot, developers divulged what was mostly regurgitated information that’s been mentioned since they first announced the expansion last year at BlizzCon. The developers detailed features such as the insta-90 feature again, reminding WarCraft fans attending and watching on the live stream that characters that instantly level to 90 will go through a tutorial of sorts, similar to the Death Knight starting area, that will slowly expose players to their abilities so they don’t suck when taking on end-game content.
Blizzard also hinted at what Draenor’s pre-launch event will be: With the Iron Horde haivng opened a portal and unleashed their vanguard into the world of Azeroth, players’ jobs will be to prevent them from establishing a foothold and unleashing the full force of their army.
Among the new tidbits of information the developers touched on was a new world player-vs.-player zone called Ashran, which will be an instanced level 100 cross-realm “battleground,” though it won’t have the traditional PvP scenarios that players are accustomed to playing. It’s more like an instanced Wintersgrasp that will be open to 100 players on either side.
Playing in the new zone rewards players with Ashran tokens that can be spent on special PvP gear. Developers also revealed that each class will get a special ability that will add a unique elements to PvP battles fought here. Abilities mentioned included a Priest using “levitate” and to fly around casting spells above the fight, or Paladins using “judgement” to teleport players to a prison for a “special reward.”
One other and very interesting feature mentioned during the stream, which will make the better PVP’ers happy, is that after killing another player, you can loot half of their Ashran tokens! That should make for very interesting, very epic battles.
A plethora of new dungeons are coming too, including a remake of the legendary Upper Blackrock Spire and the remake of Auchindoun. Along with the old are some new ones: Bloodmaul Siege Mines, Iron Docks, Skyreach, Grimrail Depot, The Everbloom, and Shadowmoon Burial Grounds. Two new raids, Blackrock Foundry and Highmaul, will also be available at launch.
Of course, these are only a handful of the huge list of changes coming in Warlords of Draenor. Blizzard is certainly trying to mix things up a bit. In typical Blizzard style, expect more to to be revealed at their next Blizzcon on Nov. 7 and 8, only a few days from the release date of Warlords of Draenor.
