Posted on February 20, 2014, Mike Sharkey Wasteland 2 Release Date Unclear, Next Beta Update Monday
In the goateed, just slightly off Mirror Universe of crowdfunded game development, release dates are nebulous figures that shift and change with the wind. Seemingly aware of this, inXile boss Brian Fargo says pinning a date on Wasteland 2′s full release is futile. That doesn’t mean the question shouldn’t be asked. When will Wasteland 2 be done?
In the latest Wasteland 2 Kickstarter update, Fargo responds:
“To outline our current plan: we will have the team working to lock down every aspect of the game within three months such that we are only addressing bugs,” Fargo stated.
Three months, eh? So we’ll be playing the full release of Wasteland 2 right around the end of May? No, likely not, Fargo said.
“Our current three month plan will create a significantly better game as we are in an important development phase with each week taking huge steps to improve the game… But do be aware the end of this three month plan does not represent the finish line, at that point there will still be work to do before we can release the game. ”
I poached the handful of relevant lines from Fargo’s sizable full update, but to sum things up succinctly on Wasteland 2′s development: three more months of final polish on the core game followed by an indeterminate span of incorporating beta player feedback.
There is one date that seems certain. Fargo said the next update for the ongoing Wasteland 2 beta is due on Monday, February 24.
