Watch Dogs will be powered by a new engine designed in-house at Ubisoft Montreal.

Technical Director Sebastien Viard confirmed via Twitter that the game will not use the Assassin’s Creed engine. He wrote:

“Watch Dogs uses a brand new engine called Disrupt, developed specifically for the game at Ubisoft Montreal. It’s not Assassin’s Creed engine.”

No other details are presently known of this Disrupt engine, but based on the footage we’ve seen, it looks impressive.

The game’s box art was revealed last week, and it turns out that the demo shown at the PlayStation 4 reveal event was running on a PC, not a PS4, despite the console HUD elements.
