Posted on March 22, 2011, Ross Lincoln Watch The Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One Trailer
You know what this day needed? Something awesome. And here it is might be, the trailer for the upcoming Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One.
I *love* the Ratchet and Clank series. I think I’ve mentioned more than once how much time I’ve spent with the series over the years, and subsequently I think it’s been too long since the very excellent Rachet and Clank Future trilogy ended. That said, while I have no doubt that All 4 one is going to be a blast, the trailer didn’t blow me away. Storywise, it looks pretty much like a paper-thin frame plot similar to Ratchet: Deadlocked, arguably the worst entry in the previous gen R&C series.
Deadlocked wasn’t a failure, but it made some pretty dumb errors, mainly the removal of platforming and comic space opera, the fact that the entire game is nothing but aglorified arena combaty mini games, and the lame plot. After the excellent original trilogy, it was a classic example of having fixed what wasn’t broken. All 4 one looks dangerously close to edging into the same territory. Luckily, instead of trying to hardcoreify the series, they’re Marioifying it, with a heavy dose of Coop play similar to New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Plus, apparently, Captain Qwark is President of the Galaxy.
Sadly, the trailer is scant on actual gameplay footage and mainly features jokes and plot-esque elements, so we’ll have to wait until the next one to see more. Still, it looks precisely like what I have been missing. I look forward to getting a bigger dose of this at E3.
