Posted on December 11, 2012, Ross Lincoln We Might Have The Next Gen Systems Code Names
SemiAccurate claims to have the scoop on the internal terminology for Sony’s and Microsoft’s next gen systems, and spoiler alert y’all: Durango fans need to take a moment of silence.
The Xbox 720 code name is, supposedly, “Kryptos,” while PS4 is now known internally as “Thebes”. Apparently the two companies really have a thing for ancient Greece (‘kryptos’ means ‘hidden’, so har har har, Microsoft). Additionally, Xbox supposedly runs on an AMD chip called “Oban.”
All of this is, it goes without saying, not verified, so take it with a grain of salt big enough to cause hypertension. Still, if true, then we now know nothing of consequence about the new systems, other than that they’re in development, which we already knew. Is that clear?
