May 25, 2004. That’s the last time a new Thief game, Deadly Shadows, launched. After nine years and 11 months, the Garrett drought will finally end.
Eidos Montreal’s new Thief is set for release on Tuesday. They’ve just sent us the launch trailer (seen above) to herald Garrett’s return, and it’s more evidence that, in spite of the near decade since Deadly Shadows, Eidos still knows how to make a real Thief game.
Thief’s lengthy, troubled development is well documented, but as Eidos Montreal finally nears the finish line, the final product looks terrific. But don’t just take my word for it, check out a full 17 minutes of gameplay from the first mission below (minor spoilers):
After Dishonored rekindled my love for stealth, I’m really looking forward to returning to the franchise responsible for the stealth genre as we know it. And since we’re so close to launch, it’s a good time to once again post Thief’s minimum and recommended specs:
