Xbox Live Achievement Points are great in many ways, but also seem to take away from games played online quite often. I’ve been playing Shadowrun off and on all week and have really started to notice how the achievement points ruin many of the matches. I find that in many of the matches I am involved with there is always at least one person on my team playing only for personal achievement points. I have heard people saying they don’t bother purchasing “res” anymore because they already have the achievement. Actually helping the team win a game seems to be less important to many of these players.
Another thing I have noticed is the formation of boosting parties to gain achievements. What did you actually achieve if you had to cheat to get your points? Perhaps cheating and playing online without any ethics whatsoever will always boggle my mind. I always thought the entire point of gaming was to have fun, make friends and to overcome challenges. If you don’t have the skills to compete fairly, perhaps you should consider playing some easier games.
