Posted on November 22, 2011, Phil Owen World of Warcraft Could Lose As Many As 1.6 Million Players To Star Wars: The Old Republic
Lizard Capital Markets did a survey of World of Warcraft players that showed some interesting/alarming data. The survey said half of the 381 players polled would buy Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Lizard, extrapolating the data, determined the WoW is prepared to lose anywhere from 900,000 to 1.6 million players to BioWare’s game.
Does this come as a surprise to anyone? I’m certainly not surprised. WoW has been losing players at an alarming rate already, and so it makes sense that they would lose more to the biggest new MMO of the year. Everybody is going to play this game for a little while at least. Hell, I’m even considering getting it, and that’s just absurd.
Watch out, Blizzard.
