Posted on November 27, 2012, Dan O'Halloran World of Warcraft Mists of Pandaria Patch 5.1 Landfall Guide
Though the crown jewel of this hefty content patch for WoW: MoP (dubbed “Landfall”) may be the exclusive Brawler’s Guild, Blizzard is also spreading the love for many players. A new PvP hub is coming to Pandaria complete with new dailies, reputations, achievements, and loot. The pet battle system is getting new pets, an improved pet journal, and a new consumable to increase your pet’s rarity. All this plus a new item upgrade system, new scenarios for both factions, and more. Read on for the details.
Pet Battle Improvements
The big news for Pokemo–uh, Pet Battle enthusiasts is the introduction of Battle-stones. This consumable item can increase the rarity of your pets from Common to Uncommon or Rare. It comes in two flavors, those that work on a specific class of pets (aquatic, beast, elemental, etc.) and those that work on any class of pet (but often costing the pet a level or two in the process if it is over level 15.) Battle-stones can be obtained from defeating wild pets, completing pet trainer quests, or purchased for 1000 Justice points. They aren’t soulbound, so you’ll be able to find them on the auction house as well for outrageous prices as the gougers come out in force as they tend to do with such large content patches.
The long hoped-for pet bonus experience item is also being introduced. Players who have completed the Taming the World achievement of defeating 40 master pet tamers will be awarded the Safari Hat. Don’t forget to swap it out when pet battling (and back out when you’re done…) In-game zone maps also list the level of wild battle pets that reside there and Pet Journals now have sortable lists.
New pets in patch 5.1 are coming from many sources including the Darkmoon Faire. Four are Pandaran elemental pets, two of them can be made by Tailors, one can be won defeating the new Darkmoon Faire Pet Tamer, another won can be redeemed for 90 Darkmoon Faire tickets, and still another can be caught during pet battles on the island. Win that Darkmoon Eye and you, too, can have your very own mini-Sauron, you filthy, stealing, little hobbitses.
Battle pets are now added as drops to many classic raid targets who have been weakened to make farming easier. If you collect them all, you’ll receive a special achievement and your very own Mr. Bigglesworth. Cue maniacal laughter.
