The MMO giant World of Warcraft is almost 10 years old, although thanks to falling subscription numbers, how many years it has left is uncertain. Not that Blizzard has plans to slow down: According to World of Warcraft executive producer J. Allen Brack, WoW’s development team is bigger than ever, and has multiple planned expansions in the works.
“The World of Warcraft team is 50 percent larger today than it was when we shipped Mists of Pandaria,” Brack told Polygon. “We’re already working on the next expansion. We already have ideas for the expansion after that. We’ve never been larger. We’ve never been more forward-thinking about the types of things that we can do with World of Warcraft.”
World of Warcraft’s subscription numbers traditionally rise and fall around its expansion releases, the latest of which will be next month’s “Warlords of Draenor”. Considering Blizzard recently cancelled its Titan MMO, it wouldn’t be surprising if some of those resources are now being used to plan future World of Warcraft content. Meanwhile, Blizzard is also working on the StarCraft 2′s “Legacy of the Void”, Diablo 3′s season mode, and Hearthstone’s upcoming expansions.
