The largest video game collection in the world is 10,607 games strong.
I don’t think I could fit that many games in my house.
That’s among the many gaming-related factoids in the just released Guinness World Records 2014 Gamer’s Edition. The enormous game collection was put together by a now 43-year-old Buffalo man, and it’s valued at more than $700,000. Man, I wish I didn’t throw out all those old Atari, Coleco, and NES cartridges.
Here are a handful of other gaming records Guinness is pitching in this year’s edition:
- Grand Theft Auto 5 became the fastest entertainment franchise to hit $1 billion in sales. Rockstar’s latest did so in just three days, topping the previous records held by Call of Duty and Avatar.
- A Bakersfield, California woman set the longest marathon on a dance game record: 49 hours, 3 minutes, 22 seconds. That’s actually pretty damn impressive, dancing around for over two days straight.
- Some dude set the record for fastest Batman: Arkham City completion. He sped through Gotham’s prison world in just 2 hours, 3 minutes, 19 seconds.
- A new high-score was set for Pac-Man: 5,555,552 points. (Not sure how that was accomplished. The Pac-Man “perfect score” is somewhere in the 3 million range and the game crashes after you hit it.)
Nice to see my personal favorite gaming record – world’s oldest competitive gamer (81-year-old Doris Self) — still hasn’t been topped. RIP Doris!
