Microsoft is working on unannounced IPs that will “push the boundaries.”
The yet-to-be revealed projects were confirmed by Xbox boss Phil Spencer who stated the company have several new games in works and that they are being developed both by “first-party internal and external studios.” He would go on to claim that many of the company’s new titles would fall outside the box.
“I think new stories, new characters give us a new canvas to try new things,” he said, raising Insomniac’s Sunset Overdrive as an example. “It’s a game that isn’t like anything else in our portfolio, and I think that’s great. I want to continue to invest in things that push the boundaries. I don’t need another military space marine game. I don’t probably need another racing game. In terms of trying things that are new and have a unique reason to be in our portfolio, it’s gotta be a commitment from us as a first-party, absolutely.”
Spencer would go on to reveal that he’ll be visiting Rare next month to see a pitch for a new game, adding that he’d like to see the studio “something new that feels like a Rare game.”
