That's a small dose of what's to come on Christmas. #LizardSquad

Xbox Live is up and running again after a group of hackers knocked it offline yesterday.

The online service experienced a brief outage last night, resulting in users receiving an error code when they tried to connect using their Xbox 360’s and Xbox Ones. Microsoft’s Xbox support site never confirmed that the service was experiencing problems, but the issues were reported by a wide swathe of gamers. The hacker group Lizard Squad eventually claimed responsibility for the outage in a posting to its Twitter, later promising further disruptions “on Christmas.”

Microsoft, speaking in a statement today, refused to “comment on the root cause” of the outage but did confirm that “Xbox Live was experiencing log-in issues for some Xbox 360 and Xbox One customers.” It would further affirm that all online services had been restored and that customers should “no have full access to box Live.” What remains to be seen, of course, is what will happen at the end of this month when Christmas comes.
