Which next-gen console will be better? Game Front gives the definitive opinion with our massive Xbox One vs. Playstation 4 Ultimate Buyer’s Guide.
We’ve heard that the Xbox One will be larger than its predecessor, but just how much space will Microsoft’s next console eat up in our media centers?
According to a frequent Reddit poster who has been confirmed as an Xbox One developer, the difference in size will be marginal, at least if you’ve got one of the original Xbox 360s rather than a slim model. Here are the specs XboxOneDev posted on Reddit, and we’ve added Xbox 360 and Xbox 360 S specs for comparison:
Xbox One: 13.1″ x 10.8″ x 3.1″ (width, depth, height)
Xbox 360: 12.15″ x 10.15″ x 3.27″
Xbox 360S: 10.6″ 10.3″ x 2.95″
It’s important to note that Microsoft has stated the Xbox One is not designed to be stood upright, so the 13.1″ width is the key measurement here. If you’ve got an original Xbox 360 laid flat, you should easily be able to swap it out for the Xbox One. However, 3″ is a good deal of media center space if you’re making the leap from the Xbox 360 Slim.
And don’t forget, Kinect is no longer mandatory for Xbox One operation, but you’re paying for it with the whole $500 package, so you might as well put it to use. According to XboxOneDev, Microsoft’s new camera controller measures:
Kinect: 9.8″ x 2.6″ x 2.63″ (9.5′ cable)
For those of you wondering, that’s a couple inches shorter than the original 11″ wide Kinect.
