New NPD data has revealed that the Xbox One outsold the PlayStation 4 in December.
“Building off a record-setting holiday, we are excited to announce a new promotion in which fans in the U.S. can buy an Xbox One at a special price of $349, starting tomorrow, January 16, from their preferred retailer,” said Mike Nichols, Xbox’s Corporate Vice President of Marketing. “We are thankful for all the excitement for Xbox One this holiday and proud to offer more fans the amazing games lineup, Xbox Live gaming community, and continual innovation that Xbox One fans have come to enjoy.”
The promotion’s $349 price tag is, of course, the same price as the holiday and Black Friday bundles that helped push the Xbox One to the top hardware sales spot in the final months of 2014. We’ll have to wait and see if this new promotion is enough to push the console to another month at the top of the sales chart.
Not all of Microsoft’s news had to do with the Xbox One though. In its release, the company also revealed that as of December the Xbox 360 had officially become the best selling console of the last generation. In other words, it was a good month for Xbox.
