Posted on October 28, 2011, Phil Hornshaw Yaaar, Activision Be Huntin’ Modern Warfare 3 Pirates!
A pirated copy of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 disc has made it out into the wild, and Activision is looking for the scurvy dogs responsible. Or at least, the ones using those contraband discs.
What apparently has happened is that some employee at a shipping center in Fresno, Calif., was able to snag a PC versoin disc out of one of the MW3 shipments — but Disc 2, not Disc 1. (Good work, guy — you’re terrible at thieving AND piracy.) According to VentureBeat‘s story, whatever game data there is has leaked out across the Internet in some form, but it’s not clear how much is included on the disc or if this is the primary means through which pirating of the game has occurred.
VentureBeat also reports that on Craig’s List is an ad warning against buying the game early, as Activision will “come get you.” Possibly by dispatching Task Force 141. That seems like the kind of job bruiser British dudes with mohawks would want to handle — the destruction of pasty basement pirates for stealing a video game.
