Given the immense resurgence in the popularity of Pokémon, thanks to the mobile AR game Pokémon GO, it was only a matter of time before it met another very popular game franchise; Grand Theft Auto: enter modder LudicrousBeach, who brings the excitement of Pokemon GO to the world of GTA V!

One of the cornerstones of Pokémon GO is the fact that you actually have to get up and walk around the real world to play the game (legitimately, that is) - as you explore the real world, you encounter wild Pokémon and find Gyms and Pokéstops in the form of local landmarks.

Of course, you can always cheat at Pokémon GO, but such cheating has lead to players getting banned, and isn't really much fun anyway.

So what if you could play Pokémon GO without having to actually leave the comfort of your own sofa?

Pokémon Go GTA Edition aims to provide just such an experience - by faithfully re-creating the full Pokémon GO experience within the GTA V's story mode (don't try this on GTA Online, honestly, it might not end well).

The gameplay mechanics and features of the real Pokémon GO have been replicated within the game, including Pokéstops, hatching eggs, and the appearance of wild Pokémon. You can even level up in exactly the same way as the real game.

There are a few minor differences to the real Pokémon GO, however: there's only first evolution Pokémon available in the wild, and you must catch ten of each of any given species in order for the second evolution Pokémon to appear across the map. Presumably this is to make up for the fact that the real world is a lot bigger than the in-game world of Los Santos.

There's a few other features missing, too: there are no Gyms, sadly, although there may be obvious reasons for why this is the case. Pokémon also have no CP and you can't level up Pokémon that you've caught, nor can you name your Pokémon. The mod is still a work in progress, however, so it's possible that some of these features may come in future versions of the mod.

The egg-hatching mechanic does make it to the game, however, but don't think that you can climb into a jet plane and hatch your eggs in record time; only distance on foot counts towards the progress of hatching your eggs!

Despite some missing features, this mod is definitely an entertaining diversion for GTA V, and if you're a fan of both franchises, definitely worth checking out.
