Posted on December 11, 2012, Randy Nelson You Have to Check Out This Indie Sports Competition
We have to imagine that the intersection of a Venn diagram of sports fans and indie game fans isn’t exactly huge. Still, that hasn’t stopped TIGSource’s Sports Competition from receiving a packed field (see what we did there?) of would-be winners. There are 44 games up for vote, in fact. Oh, and we forgot: They’re not your average sports, either.
Among the nearly four dozen entries are the likes of Boogie Tennis, a wild and wacky spin (har-har) on the court-based sport by Derek Yu, creator of the cult indie hit Spelunky. Some of our other favorites so far include: DeTENNIStration (below), a game about throwing tennis players out of windows; Final Fantasy Football (above), aka football with random battles; and Unicorrida, where you’re a matador versus unicorns.
All of the games are downloadable and playable for free so you can try them out and cast your vote, which requires a forum account. Many of today’s greatest indie games and creators have emerged from such competitions, so who knows, you could be voting on the future!
Have you tried any of the Sports Compo entries? Which is your favorite?
