Posted on November 4, 2011, Phil Owen You Might Get Banned from Xbox Live for Playing Modern Warfare 3 Early
UPDATE: If you have a legit MW3 copy, Robert Bowling says you won’t get banned. Stephen Toulouse tweeted this earlier, reversing his original you’ll-get-banned statement: “hey gang, as @fourzerotwo mentioned today on @gamespot, no plans to ban legit MW3 copies, but wait til Tuesday to play with everybody.”
Well, this has got to be a buzzkill for folks who managed to snag a copy of Modern Warfare 3 before the weekend at K-Mart or wherever.
At first, it seemed like all was good, because Xbox Live security chief Stephen Toulouse tweeted:
If your copy is legit and obtained legitly, have fun. It’s a great game.
But then he changed his tune:
Clarification: dblchk’d with Activision. Mw3 pre-release play not authorised. So pls be patient. Playing early may impact your account!
Well, OK. So that seems pretty sad, potentially banning folks for playing a legally obtained copy of a game. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of this happening before. Huh.
I say, though, fight the system. Play anyway. F–k ‘em. What would crashoverride do? Or maybe you should just get a PS3 copy instead.
