In what seems like an unprecedented move, Level-5 is, according to a 4Gamer interview with the game’s director, making it so that those who pick up the PS3 exclusive White Knight Chronicles 2 when it comes out in Japan in August will have to complete the first entry in the series before moving on. That requirement is made less unreasonable by the fact that the first game will be included on the same Blu-ray disc. Of course, if you finished the game but don’t still have the completed game save for whatever reason, then you’re SOL.
The included version of White Knight Chronicles is not the same as previously released. It has been updated with changes that were made for the sequel. The changes are apparently large enough that owners of the original version will not be able to play online with those who own the new version.
I still don’t know what I think about this, but it’s possible I never will have to think about it, since there isn’t a Western release planned, at least not yet, and considering I didn’t like the first one enough to finish it, I’m not in any rush to play the new one. I really wouldn’t mind giving it another shot, though, because it was certainly better than Final Fantasy XIII.
