I’m playing through the latest build of Horde, the Gears 2 multiplayer mode you might have heard something about recently, and damn those Mauler Boomers are tough! After a few playthroughs, it starts to sink in what a simple, yet ingenious, mode this is. Wave of guys comes at you, dust ‘em, wave of tougher guys come at you, dust ’em, wash, rinse, repeat, till you die. It recalls the days when the goal of a game wasn’t about reaching the final cutscene, but testing how good you were at the game, how high you could get your top score, how long before you tapped out. Cliff describes this mode as Smash TV meets Geometry Wars, and as someone who sunk way too many quarters into the arcade (and later home) version of Smash TV, I can say Epic’s done a great job resurrecting the whole straight-forward, kill-’em-all style of Smash. It’s all shaping up nicely; can’t wait to check the team-based leaderboards once the game drops in November.
This week’s site update brings us new entries for the Troika Turret and the Boltok Pistol in “The Game†section, as well as a bunch of new screenshots in the media page. Browse ’em at your leisure, and check back next week for more new stuff.
