File Description

This is a custom ReShade, with modified render settings for much better lighting, AA, reflection and MXAO. Much like the GTA V version, it aims to make the game look more realistic and vibrant, and the effect works quite well. This mod works for both the base game and Episodes from Liberty City.

GTA 4 & Episodes from Liberty City
Beautification Project 1.0
by Tore Andersen
The GTA 4 Beautification Project is a small enhancement guide for Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto Episodes From Liberty City. It will significantly improve both graphics & effects, and optionally add some new content. Even though Grand Theft Auto IV & Episodes From Liberty City were not designed to be modified, it's still possible with the use of some editing tools. The graphics of the games are not bad, but they are pretty far from the graphics of GTA V. The world of GTA IV & GTA EFLC also can't compare to the incredible details of GTA V, but with this modification guide, GTA IV & GTA EFLC will come closer at least with regards to render & graphics.

1 - Preparation
Before installing the mods, a few things needs to be setup

As Grand Theft Auto 4 was not designed to use mods, I highly recommend backing up the game before starting. That way, if something goes wrong, or if you want to tryout different renders, then you don't need to install the entire game again.

1: Update to latest version (if needed)
Make sure you have the latest version of both GTA IV & EFLC (The steam version comes already updated)
For non-Steam:
GTA IV Patch 1.0.8.0 (LINK)
EFLC Patch 1.1.3.0 (LINK)

2: Backup
Make a new folder and copy both GTA IV & EFLC game folders into it.

3: OpenIV (LINK)
Download and install this program.
*This is a tool to modify GTA IV & V game files. It works like a regular file explorer, except it can read/write inside the package files.

2 - The G.4.B.P. Mod-List
The following mods need to be installed one by one, in the order they are listed. This is important, as some mods overwrite files from others.

Mods 4: Graphics

G4BP Graphics Overhaul (LINK)
Download both files. Unpack the main file into the GTA IV game-folder, and unpack the optional file into the EFLC game-folder.
Overwrite any existing files.

Note: Right before the game starts, the loading screen will look messed up. Don't worry, the game will load just fine.

*If you use Steam overlay, there is a chance that the display will have way too much contrast. If that happens, just disable the Steam overlay and run the game once, then you can enable it again.

*Note for Windows 10 "Creators update" users:
The Windows 10 Creators update introduced a wide variety of problems for games, especially when using custom renders like ENB or ReShade. Fortunately this can be fixed in two simple steps (LINK)
*See number 4: Fixing the Creators "update"
If this doesn't work, then there is still something in the Windows 10 Creators Update that blocks the custom dll. If you are unable to fix it, you will have to uninstall the ReShade and play without. Just delete the d3d9.dll file but keep everything else.

Mods 5: New Cars

There are thousands of car replacement mods for GTA IV & EFLC (LINK)
You can replace as many cars as you want without problems, just follow the instructions within each mod
