You may have seen an official-looking message appear on GTA Online in the past 24 hours or so, simply stating GTA VI, Coming 2019 – and it had quite a lot of players up in arms with excitement at the seemingly legitimate looking in-game notification.
As it transpires, no, the message is no legitimate – but was achieved by hackers using unauthorised mods to exploit in the in-game message broadcasting system built into Rockstar Social Club. Rockstar confirmed in a tweet today that these platforms, specifically PS3, Xbox 360 and Windows, have fallen victim to the illicit modding.
This is a hoax made with the use of mods, and not an official message or statement from Rockstar Games. *OV— Rockstar Support (@RockstarSupport) 2 July 2018
So, news about no news, but expect this exploit to be patched pretty quickly. It remains to be seen weather GTA VI will indeed arrive in 2019, although with the focus currently on Red Dead Redemption 2, this seems unlikely.
