Mike Z has posted in the Guild Wars 2 forums about the current state of developments for Guild Wars 2 and also about the staff cuts that are occurring at ArenaNet that we reported on earlier this week.
The team are still working really hard to bring updates to the game with developments like the next episodes of the Living World are coming along nicely, Swiss tournament support is on the way to PvP and some more World vs World events are on the cards to be released soon, not to mention the return of the Super Adventure Festival coming very soon. The long term improvements to the game currently revolve around large-scale improvements to quality of life and world restructuring but that will take some time.
Mike then moves on to talk about how delays will be inevitable as they look to continue to bring about these updates with all the changes that are going on. Some of the team working on unannounced projects are coming back to the fold, but of course some have been let go and it's a difficult time for the teams as they see people they've been working with for years have to leave and not of their own choosing. We of course don't want the quality of updates to reduce so I'm sure we can all support the hard working team at ArenaNet and give them a bit of breathing space to come to terms with what is going on and allow them to work and do what they do best - make amazing content.
Here is a short excerpt from Mike about the situation in his post:
I’d like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all of you who have reached out in support of our studio family. Thank you for your patience in this trying time. We’re making every effort to keep things running as smoothly as possible and stay on track with releases. Rest assured that ArenaNet is not done with Guild Wars. And the team is not done with our tale of dragons, or our eternal conflict in the mists. There’s still lots for us to do together.
