This is a good DM map by Antistar.

It is based in a remote promontory with an excellently made custom lighthouse, with spiraling stairs directly to the top, outside you have a rather long pier with a large warehouse, industrial crates scattered about the place and a bridge going into the warehouse. The warehouse has power generators inside it that have a lot of cool little hiding places and it has a lot of pickups and ammo inside it. The pier outside has industrial crates dotted around it that provide hiding spots from the casual sniper and the pier has a lot of weapons dotted around it so you will never be without something to shoot with, underneath the pier there is a watery hideaway that has plenty of holes to shoot at people above you, there is also a few weapons underneath also.

This map has had a lot of time put into it and is well textured and lit, well done.

This HL2 death match map is set in a disused concrete yard on a remote promontory, with the play environment featuring a lighthouse, warehouse, above and below a dilapidated pier, and the aforementioned concrete yard - strewn with cargo containers and wrecked cars. The map is small enough to be enjoyable for three people, but large enough to accommodate up to around eight - and open enough in places to make fights involving the rpg and/or crossbow interesting.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: To play the map, place dm_promontory.bsp in your \Valve\Steam\SteamApps\STEAM USER NAME\half-life 2 deathmatch\hl2mp\maps\ directory, load the game, and create a server using the dm_promontory map. Alternatively, enter this command into the in-game console:

map dm_promontory


DESCRIPTION: This HL2 deathmatch map is set in a disused concrete yard on a remote promontory, with the play environment featuring a lighthouse, warehouse, above and below a dilapidated pier, and the afore-mentioned concrete yard - strewn with cargo containers and wrecked cars. The map is small enough to be enjoyable for three people, but large enough to accommodate up to around eight - and open enough in places to make fights involving the rpg and/or crossbow interesting.

I actually made this map as part of my application for a level designer job at a particular studio here in Australia. They were concerned that my demonstrated experience was basically all in singleplayer level design (for example my released singleplayer episodes 'Haunted' for Half-Life 1, and 'Damage' for Unreal 2); so I made dm_promontory to demonstrate that I could do multiplayer level design as well. I did get the job, in the end. :-)


BUGS: There are some slight tears in the base of the lighthouse (on the outside) - but they are visual bugs only. (Fixing the brushes involved produced geometry errors, so I left it as it was, since it's only a minor visual bug).

Credit goes to Valve's artists for the static meshes, textures, sound effects and some modified level geometry (the lighthouse) used in dm_promontory.
