I'm sure you've all heard of Black Mesa , the project to re-create the original Half-Life in a modern game engine, with updated audio and visuals. It has a long and storied history, with several iterations and eventually becoming a stand-alone release.
But the developers, collectively known as Crowbar Collective, are now moving into more original territory with their latest project, Black Mesa: Xen. It aims to provide a full games worth of new adventures on the planet Xen, and a trailer for it is below.
Perhaps this is to make up for the years that Xen was missing from the Black Mesa project, but in any case the results are very, very impressive. Xen was only a small part of Half-Life 1 so it's great to see a full-blown adventure take place in the wierd and mysterious world, one that has perhaps not got enough attention in the main Half-Life series.
The trailer comes on the 20th anniversary of Half-Life, another fact that makes me feel super old, although Xen itself wont be available until at least the second quarter of next year, despite being mostly complete, as the team want to add more polish and improve reliability.
