The Spartan Effect FAQ

So what is the Spartan Effect? It’s a series of short videos made using the video game, Halo 2. It’s easier and quicker than traditional animation techniques.

Are you guys to lazy to do animation properly? Totally. We also don’t have the time or money to produce something film companies take years over.

Will you ever be making your videos better? Over time we will be improving all our projects. If we could, we’d love to venture into the HD era. But with most things it would be very expensive, and since we don’t make any money from this we’d have to wait for things to become dirt cheap. For the time being, we’re going to try and make the best damn videos we can.

What do you use to make your videos? We use a couple of Xboxes, an Xbox 360 and a PC. The Xbox 360 is used as the camera, so it’s plugging into a DV capture card on our PC. From that we do all of our editing and special effects in Premiere Elements 2 and Photoshop Elements 3.

How often do you release episodes? Episodes ‘should’ be released once every month. For first chapter we managed one every 2 months, but now we’ve expanded our team, we can stick to a monthly schedule.

You’re using Halo 2 now. Will you use Halo 3? It’s currently a big discussion with the team. We pretty much want to jump straight into Halo 3 when it’s released, but we’re arguing how we can bend the story to make it fit. The currently plan doesn’t really account for Halo 3. And we don’t even now how it would work in Halo 3! Until we get our grubby mitts on the final game, we won’t know.
