Reborns seem to be the popular choice for first-time skinners. Salamar's first submission here is a very slightly modified Reborn. The default skin is green and is shaded nicely. His name is on the front and back of the skin. The team versions have the same look, but not in the tradional blue and red you'd expect. The blue actually looks almost purple and the red is definitely a firey orange. And the skin's face seems to have some kind of facepaint (I'm assuming) on it.
Salamar certainly has some skills with graphics (that I know for a fact) and it does show in his first skin. Though, there are a few things that I just don't think work in this skin. The ... uh ... facepaint thing. That just looks like he has some freaky facial hair. And, well, then of course, there's the fact that this is a Reborn. ;) But y'know, the only other things I'd suggest are a custom taunt and bot support.
