This is another entry for the January 2007 Map-Craft contest (rules are in the read-me, if you're curious). In accordance with the contest rules, this map consists of one room (although it's a rather large single room). This might be a disappointment to some who were looking for a castle map that you could actually enter, but rules are rules.
As you may have guessed from the file name, this map has a tribal aspect to it. Think tribal tattoos... but "tatooed" onto walls and pillars. These tribal designed are displayed brightly across the map, as well as on jump pads which will launch you to the four corners of the map. Be careful, though. If you don't land precisely where the jump pad is sending you, you'll be gifted with fall damage. So don't be moving around in mid air if you want to conserve your health.
The map itself is well constructed. It's got enough visual flair to keep you interested (just look at that castle!) and enough pickups to make for a decent round of guns. In addition, there seem to be quite a few good places to hide behind, so it wouldn't just be a straightforward fight. Open enough for a duel, but with enough room for a mid-sized free-for-all. The one thing that really bothered me about this map was the tribal designs I mentioned earlier. They'd be fine, except the glow is very pixely around the edges. Noticibly so, which is a bummer. Also, one of the columns seemed to not all bet here (see the screenshots). Not sure why a chunk was missing, but a floating pillar doesn't quite seem to fit. Overall, though, a strong and sturdy map with a style all its own, and technique to back it up. Certainly not a map that should be quickly passed over.

By saying this, I mean more specifically, the player can only have access to a single room. One room is one room. If you have an archway seperating your room or somthing along those lines, fine. The point of this is to keep some people from... accidentally turning a duel/small ffa map into a monster that requires 10 minutes to run from side to side. You will not get extra points for making a large map, so don't. 2) Maps will be duel / power duel/ small ffa - NOTE.. small FFA does not = huge freakin map. 3) Total map size: any, but choose carefully. No maps where you need a tram to get to the other side. 4) Custom textures only - Textures you yourself made. 5) Texture color is limited to the following: a) Gray scale.. anywhere in this spectrum, as many variations as you wish from white up to black. This means you can have anywhere from 1 to 5000 different textures that are gray scale. b) One color of your choice with the ability of utilizing any shade of the same: example.. red, light red, dark red etc. - This means that.. say you choose red. You can feel free to utilize as many read textures as you can make, using the entire spectrum of red to accomplish this. You may also use various shades of red in each texture if you wish that fall into this category. (this does not mean of course putting red colors in your b/w textures or any other.) c) 2 other colors of your choice.. example: a specific green and a specific blue (not multiple shades of each) This means, that you MUST choose one specific shade of two colors.. and thats it. This texture will be a solid of whatever color you pick. * - the use of shaders is extremely recommended. The above texture limits are in reference to the actual texture files. - I highly recommend turning to page 3 and taking a look at Darth Arth's examples... that pretty much nails it on the head. 6) Maps will be given 4 weeks. The start date will be January 1st with all maps to be submitted to me no later Than January 31st, 2007. 7) All entries are to be open source so map files MUST be included. All textures must be open source as well.
