Bumpmapping

bumpmappingv1.zip

Description

This mod I was half-expecting to be a failure, but thankfully, Averus was pleased. You will not die....yet =_,=

Now, this mod, being a rather smart idea, changes your default guns so that they are effected by specular lighting. What does this complicated garbage mean to you masses? Well, basically the lighting shines and bounces off the guns more realistically. The most impressive part was the author's attention to the scope on the E-11 and the Pistol. The E-11's scope takes in light now, and I was quite impressed by the simple genius of this modification =_,= The only possible downfalls to this mod would be the loss of the shiny and vanity aspects slightly. They seem a little more rustic, but that is hardly a problem. The only other problem is the large file size I suppose. Personally, if I used the default guns, I would keep this in my base.

IF YOU USE THE DEFAULT WEAPONS, SURRENDER YOUR BANDWIDTH AND RECEIVE THE SMALL(in changes) YET IMPRESSIVE MOD. *stamps the Averus Retruthan Seal of Malevolence upon it*

Installation Instructions: There are several ways to use most mods:

Auto-effect: These installed mods automatically affect the gameplay in Jedi Academy. They are extracted into the BASE folder of the Jedi Academy/Gamedata folder.

Load-up: These installed mods do not automatically affect the gameplay of Jedi Academy when you load the game: you have to load them up from the MODS menu under the Setup/Mods tab in the main menu.

***BEFORE USING BUMPMAPPINGV1.PK3, REMOVE FROM YOUR 'BASE' FOLDER ALL FILES THAT CHANGE THE APPEARANCE OF YOUR WEAPONS IN SOME WAY. IF YOU DO NOT REMOVE THESE FILES, IT IS POSSIBLE BUMPMAPPINGV1.PK3 WILL NOT RUN CORRECTLY.***

Description: A new take of my own design on Quake3 Arena Engine's relatively untapped Specular Lighting function has allowed me to create a bumpmapping effect for most of the weapons and a few characters. I believe the effect achieved is quite true to real bumpmapping--I hope you find that it enhances the game's graphics.

Bugs: 1. The rodian's head, though meant to be shiny and glistening, is rather dull. I hope to fix this in later versions.
      2. You may experience some flickering with the specular lighting when entering/leaving unlit areas in maps. This is mostly because of the way the Q3 engine uses specular lighting.

----Any further bugs you may inform me of in the comments section, and I will try to fix them, or just contact me at the above address.----

Future Plans: It is very likely that I will create a second version--or at least a fix--to this mod. I will probably include bumpmapping for most of the characters, and possibly some map textures.

Comments: For all you shader "hackers" out there, this mod was created by using the Bumpmapping effect contained in the Lighting Effects function of The GIMP. I then applied the line "rgbGen identity" to the specular image in the shader.

NOTE: This mod changes the appearance of most of the weapons to make them look bumpy. If you prefer your weapons looking shiny and new, this mod probably will not satisfy you. I may include a seperate file along with any fixes I may make to this mod, so that the weapons can look shiny, as well, if I get enough requests for it.
