File Description

First of all I'd like to point out that bump mapping is not possible in JK2 or JK3, and what this tutorial shows is not bump mapping -- it's making the texture look bumpy, which is another thing entirely. At best this is a fake bump mapping tutorial that attempts to simulate the results of real bump mapping.

Now that I've said that to diffuse any gossip that bump mapping is actually possible, let's move on to the tutorial. The tutorial claims that it is meant for GIMP 2.4 and photoshop, but if you are a photoshop user you will be sorely disappointed to find that none of the actual bump mapping section is applicable to your program. Despite what it claims, this tutorial is focused exclusively on GIMP. Also from what I saw it looks to be the result of nothing more than 2 or 3 filters. The result probably looks okay, although no image of the final product was included in the tutorial which is kind of a bummer - I know I don't follow tutorials unless I can see what the final product looks like (how do you know if you want to use the tutorial or not if you don't know what it creates?).

On the other hand, the tutorial is relatively easy to follow and comes with pictures to help you out. Some of the included pictures are very large, however, but are sized much smaller in the tutorial. Basically you've got a 1mb image that you aren't seeing full size, so it seems to me that author could have made the tutorial much more appealing by downsizing the images and saving the space if he wasn't going to display them full-size in the end.

Installation Instructions: Well, sorry. Hey, you try "installing" a Word Document! Just open it up with Microsoft Word and read.

**************************

Description: A brief tutorial exploring the steps and strategies involved in the making of my Bumpmapping mod released several months ago. I hope it proves helpful to all those who want to learn my secret! ;)

Bugs: Illustrations have been included in the Word Document. They may or may not show up--though they worked for my beta-tester just fine.

----Any further bugs you may inform me of in the comments section, and I will try to fix them, or just contact me at the above address.----

Future Plans: To release tutorials for any "brilliant shader solutions" I may have in the future, if requested by the public.

Comments: I noticed that a few people have requested this in the comments of my Bumpmapping mod, and so I figured I could write up a quick tutorial for them so that they can do it themselves, if they want. I hope it's helpful.
