Well, what a way to start. My first review, and I approved a file to the site with the original description in it AND I didn't have a review ready to paste inI have a bright future ahead of me. Sorry about that, guys. XD

I actually liked this map a lot. The setting is either sea-side or lake-side, I can't decide which. Seeing the huge hills next to the water made me wonder how in the world it all got there. I really can't think of words to describe the environment very thoroughly. Anyhow, there are several buildings just offshore. They are old, and many areas have deteriorated. The largest building seems to be built around a huge tree, which actually looked pretty awesome.

After starting the map, one of the first things I noticed was the pipes that are placed around the facility. Apparently, they carry an electric charge - watch out, it hurts! There are also explosive crates, steam vents that shoot you from rooftop to rooftop, and a cage with a rancor in it.

The weapon and item placement seemed pretty solid for a good FFA or CTF, although some of the guns were hidden quite far away from the map, encouraging sniper wars. There were many Ysalimiri and force items hidden as well.

Now for the "improvement" side of things. The author stated in the readme that he was finished with the map and included the source file. It's sort of a shame to hear that, because I see this map having some potential. The biggest problem, as you may have guessed, is the FPS. The map just under normal for the most part, but as soon as you look toward the big building, be ready for a big drop in FPS. Apparently, there is a camera inside the building that can see itself, so it sucks up fps like a sponge.

The other thing I didn't like was the music. The author used the music from a base JA ffa map, which I thought pulled some of the energy out of the map. There were also several unclipped staircases, but that's trivial.

I like the map, I really do. It's a shame that it won't be finished. Have at it, folks!

Unzip the Karrdes_Lair_2008.pk3 in your gamedatabase directory. The map should now be available under the FFA, CTF & TFFA multiplayer menu.

MAP INFORMNATION:
Talon Karrde's Lair is modelled after the one depicted in the Heir To The Empire comic book... although much of the interior has been added by me.
The map features several distinct areas, such as the beach, main building, lookout, storage and landing zone.
Hidden around the map are several of the force resistant Ysalamiri - picking one up in FFA will net you 10 extra points.
Elevators are used by pressing the 'use' key - either while standing on one at the bottom of the shaft or while next to the elevator door/switch at the top.
The map supports FFA and CTF

WARNING/BUGS:
This map has not been optimized, nor has it been playtested by me against other players.
I simply wanted to get the damn thing out the door, since half the time these things never get released.
It IS a fairly large map and while I've included FFA, TFFA & CTF game modes, it may be more suited to "roleplaying" or making vids.
It runs at very low FPS with 8 bots on my 6/7 year old P4 with 384Mb Ram & GeForce 4Ti card.
Your performance may vary.
While the bot route is OK... the bots do tend to get stuck in a couple of places.

HOWEVER:
Since I'd have loved to have done heaps more on this map but My computer can't seem to compile it,
I have included the MAP file as part of the zip... you can use this to improve performance, or change the map in any way you see fit,
eg: optimize fps, change the npc's, make changes to areas you don't like/don't need, add a cool portal sky, change the sky shader,
 reposition the weapon/item/flag placement, add different music to the level...
It's up to you what you do with it BUT if you release it publically, you MUST CREDIT ME 'Monsoontide' with the original creation. Thanks.


Bot Support: yes (though it really needs considerably more work). Perhaps someone might be kind enough to release an updated botroute?
New Textures: yes
New Music: no - was going to use "Sarlacc Unleashed" from The FOrce Unleashed but couldn't get it to work.
