I can't confess to knowing what a Kobold is, nor where it came from. Neither can I explain why it is always glowing, but hey - it looks cool nonetheless. ;)
Inyri's new model looks like a man crossed with a Howler, and I mean that in a good way. Kobold is darn cool - although not without a few little annoyances. Firstly, the texture work is a little iffy around the seams of the neck and upper arms, and secondly I don't think the distinction between the team skins is good enough - changing the aura of the model from pale cream to blue or red on these skins might have helped things out here.
Kobold also comes with his own 'sword,' although to be honest it's more of a long dagger. It's very very cool, and sounds fantastic. It's just a pity that it's so short, giving you a severe disadvantage against any saber-wielding opponents. Or you can see it the other way around - it's easier to take down the bots if you're the saber wielder. Either way, it's a very nice weapon. Unfortunately, the unfairness of the model may make you susceptible becoming easily aggravated whilst using it. Now I'm not sure about this, but the Kobold bots I played against seemed to have very little health, and were very susceptible to force attacks - flying further that I'd expected. I couldn't tell whether that was the case or not with my player model because they never seemed to be able to kill me - that's a first. :D
The model has full team, bot, NPC support and some new sounds. I don't know where the sounds came from - but they seem to fit with the model, and some of them are quite amusing to listen to. I also think that you can mess around with it in the 'Build-a character' screen, as well as in Single-player, which is a very big plus. Overall, I really enjoyed messing about with this model - the animations just look so much better with the dagger than they do with a saber, and the model itself is of a high standard.

*********************************** Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy *********************************** TITLE: Kobold AUTHOR: Inyri Forge E-MAIL: email@example.com FILENAME: kobold.pk3 FILESIZE: 12.5 mb DATE RELEASED: 29 January 2005 BUILD TIME: Many weeks. ------------ MODEL SPECS ------------ New Sounds: Yes BOT Support: Yes NPC Support: Yes Team Support: Yes SO Support: Yes -------- CREDITS -------- This model's been a long time in the works, and tons of people have helped me along the way. I'll see if I can remember specifics. Almighty_Gir: Always many thanks for pointing out my flaws, and teaching me how to do stuff along the way. minilogoguy: Never one to put anything softly. The truth hurts, but it makes me a better modeler ;). Thanks to all the forumers who took interest in the model, and everyone who beta tested it for me! -------------------------- INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS -------------------------- Dump this is your gamedata/base directory within your Jedi Academy directory. ------------ DESCRIPTION ------------ For those of you who are Dungeons & Dragons fans, Neverwinter Nights fans, or just fantasy fans in general, this is a little guy we like to call a kobold. Kobolds are portrayed differently by different people, but this is a version leaning more towards D&D, based heavily on Neverwinter Nights with modifications to fit the Jedi Academy skeleton. If you have played Shadows of Undrentide or Hordes of the Underdark, you may recognize this model's sounds as being those of the kobold bard Deekin. I wasn't planning on using his sounds at first, but due to popular demand (and he just sounds so funny) I decided to use them anyhow, so a BIG thanks to BioWare. We love you, BioWare. ---------------------- SPAWN INFORMATION ---------------------- To spawn the NPCs: pink - npc spawn kobold red - npc spawn kobold_red grey - npc spawn kobold_blue purple - npc spawn kobold_purple orange - npc spawn kobold_orange green - npc spawn kobold_green gold - npc spawn kobold_gold brown - npc spawn kobold_brown NOTE: If you have too many NPC files in your base folder, you can get rid of the NPC support for this mod by deleting the NPCs folder inside ext_data. DO NOT DELETE EXT_DATA! If you delete the entire directory, the kobold sword will not work. If you don't care if it works, go ahead and delete the whole thing. ----- BUGS ----- No bugs, unless you count the fact that the model has no caps. There's a little bit of clipping on some animations with the shoulder flaps, but at the moment it was the best I could do with it. I'm slowly improving with each model, so soon it shouldn't be much of a problem. --------- COMMENTS --------- My personal favorite color variant is the green one, in case anyone cares. I did not make the default skin pink because I like pink, I made it pink because pink is kind of a flesh tone, and I just seemed to find myself working with that color. I'm actually not a big fan of pink :p ------------------- DISTRIBUTION NOTES ------------------- You may not redistribute this file or any material contained within in any form without my express permission.
