I remember playing Mortal Kombat with my brother when I was minitiature. I probably shouldn't have been playing such a violent, bloody game, especially at such a young age. I didn't remember the music, so before writing this review I played the three Super Nintendo Mortal Kombat games emulated on my computer, as a reminder. It was rather dull and metallic -- typical of a fighting game, or any Super Nintendo game. I didn't last very long; I usually resort to repeated kicking or punching very quickly, often too far away to actually reach the opponent.
Yami_Ryou's "Mortal Kombat Deception Duel Music Mod" puts music into your Jedi Academy game from what is probably a much newer Mortal Kombat game, which is entitled "Mortal Kombat: Deception." The makers have greatly improved the quality of the music. It is now harsher and even more metallic, which perfectly suits a bloody fighting game. It's slightly more exciting; it now has phrasing and direction.
That, however, is only in contrast to the original Mortal Kombat music. As is with just about any other soundtrack from a video game, what you hear is not great music. Why hasn't anyone submitted any music mods that play Bach or Beethoven? The music in this mod, despite its harsh metallicism, just somehow comes out dull, cruel, and lifeless -- like some sort of ghastly garbage can ensemble. But the sound quality is good, as the readme notes, and if you're into this stuff, fine.
It's also, I noted, too fast-paced for Jedi Academy. I don't think anyone duels this quickly. The music was written for two fighters rapidly exchanging fists, or, as was the case when I played the SNES version, shooting rockets out of robotic chests. It was not for an elegant swordfight.
Author: -:501st:-GeneralYami Original music by: Vince Pontarelli and Dan Forden Mod name: Slaughterhouse Duel ==================================================================== Description: I love these songs from Mortal Kombat Deception. This mod replaces the music in JA multiplayer for FFA, CTF, Seige, and the duel music.. I recorded these songs by playing them straight from the game on my PS2 and playing it through my headphones and put the microphone in between the headphones. My headphones are really nice and "bass-y" so the quality is VERY good. My favorite song in here is the song for the duels, which was written by Vince Pontarelli and is called "Slaughterhouse Jive". Listen for yourself and enjoy. ==================================================================== Installation: To install, copy the "A_Mortal_Kombat_Deception_Music_Pack.pk3" and paste it in your base folder. That's it. ==================================================================== Thanks to Lucasarts and Ravensoft for making such a wonderful game. Thanks to the Adobe corporation for stealing "Cool Edit Pro" and renaming it "Adobe Audition" and saying they made it so I could mix these wonderful songs. You may use this mod for whatever you want, I don't care. BUT DON'T SELL IT! ==================================================================== Happy dueling! THIS MOD WAS NOT MADE OR DISTRIBUTED BY LUCASARTS, ACTIVISION, OR RAVENSOFT, BUT BY A JA FAN. THIS MOD IS NOT TO BE SOLD AT ANY TIME.
