Ockniel claims this map combines the themes 'Nature' and 'Peaceful', as part of the mapping compo over at MR. I have to say, the nature theme comes across very well, but we shouldn't always assume 'nature' and 'peaceful' automatically go together. I definitely felt the nature vibe, but I didn't feel that peaceful. I think a different music choice and some sharper shadows could have gone a long way in achieving this, although, to give credit, he's managed to blend his terrain using alpha brushes, something I'm not brilliant at yet. ;)
It's set in a very small floating (and invisible from underneath) piece of rock. When you're stood in the middle, it looks great, but once you get to the edge there's the classic nasty level dropout. You could quite easily have put a small fence or something here, and a bit more terrain after that to make it look lots better. And yea, that's easily possible because I don't know what the author saying about framerate problems, but mine was solidly over 80! Plenty of room for expansion! There wasn't even any real need for those sprites, which whilst good, can't really out-do a proper 3D model. Ah yes, and the texture alignment on the tree sprites is a teensy bit off, as you can see if you jump above the trees - there's random bits of leaf in midair ;)
What else? Well there were a few missing textures on the radar dish, and inside on the floor grate, but overall the map is of a high quality. It's just too small with obscured visibility most of the time to play on. And the glass on the control panels in the comm center doesn’t break. Preposterous! ;) Just kidding Ock, but if you've got more time before the compo deadline, I suggest you fix the errors and expand the level a bit, give it a proper boundary. :D

The themes I chose to combine were "Nature" and "peaceful". This map was originally going to be much larger, but due to Framerate problems, I had to make it smaller. Yeah I'd put something funny or whitty here but I can't think of anything. oh wait, yeah I can. PIE PIE PIE PIE PIE. New Textures: yes New music/sound: no New Models: no Botroutes: yes Special Credits: Simon "Sock" O'Callaghan for his great Dotproduct 2 tutorial and example files, without which I'd be sunk. or at least, take me more than one day to make new ones fer myself and get them to WORK. ;-) People over at SJC forums (superb.6.forumer.com) for their help and input. Immenor (whithout his help I'd be screwed) Sith J Cull (for his great base sprite shader)(which would have taken me wayyy to long to find otherwise) and last, but definately not least, The folks down at Map-Review (map-review.com), without them I wouldn't have even made this map ;-) ========================================================== THIS MODIFICATION IS NOT MADE, DISTRIBUTED, OR SUPPORTED BY ACTIVISION, RAVEN, OR LUCASARTS ENTERTAINMENT COMPANY LLC.
