Platform Arena

Here's an updated version of the Platform Duel map.

The floor and wall textures have been changed, and now look somewhat better. In fact, they kind of give the impression that the room is a training facility. A large light has been added in the center, to give the room shadows. One other visual improvement is the wall texture, which looks far better no doubt because of the lighting. An arena script has also been included, so now the map appears on the menu.

I did notice a few things in the pk3 which, while not exactly being errors, were unnecessary. Firstly the maps folder only needs the BSP file. Secondly, the .proj script doesn't need to be included either. Thirdly, the levelshot has to be a square image - 1024x1024 are the best dimensions. Don't ask me why the game is picky like that, but it is.

Even though it's nice that the author is updating the map and covering up the flaws, this map is really a little too basic to expend the effort on. I'd advise going over tutorials from various sources, most notably the Master Sticky in the forums, honing your mapping technique, then seeing if you can come out with something a little more advanced. You've already shown an ability to learn from mistakes, so use that ability to improve your work.

While this map is still very very basic, it also still makes for some fun duels, and is great for jumping practice, or maybe you can think up some mini-games. So, if you gave the last version a try and had a few fun duels, then download this one for a little home improvement.
