SuperQ's "RealLightning" attempts to correct some of the quirky looks of the original lightning Dark Force power, but ends up creating even more quirks itself. I do not like the original lightning; it does not look good, it sounds dull, and it is no where close to the lightning of the films. SuperQ changes the lightning by beginning it in larger arcs, ending in smaller ones, as the author describes it. He also modified the bolt colors, the shapes, and the lightning sounds. All changes are clear and obvious, but they may not appear to be for the better.
The new shape of the lightning is really what is bugging me. I think the colors are fine, but each lightning bolt now looks just like a squiggly line. I do not recall such squiggly lines from the movies. As I remember, the lightning of the films is somewhat in-between the jaggedness of the default lightning and the squiggliness of "RealLightning." Another problem, however smaller, is the sounds, which are adequate. They do not make the experience of using lightning any more fun or exciting; but instead, it's just a change.
I believe that this lightning may just be a test-run for the author. Seeing that he is capable of editing the lightning to a different shape, I'm sure he'll be able to advance further into the realm of small modding. I wish him good luck for next time; but this time, it's not much.
*********************************** Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy *********************************** TITLE: RealLightnint AUTHOR: SuperQ E-MAIL: firstname.lastname@example.org FILENAME: RealLightning.pk3 FILESIZE: .97 mb DATE RELEASED: 29 December 2005 Description: This mod simply enhances the realism of the force lightning effect in Jedi Academy. I mean, its kind of absurd to call lightning shooting out of you hands realistic, but oh well. Things that I've changed: The lightning begins in larger arcs, and ends in very small ones. This give the bolts depth. I've changed the bolt colors and shapes using photoshop, now the bolts look smoother and less choppy. I've altered some sounds. I downloaded them from somewhere and used GoldWave to edit them, here's a list: the sound when you start using lightning the drain sound the aftershock noise Installation: place RealLightning.pk3 in your Gamedata\Base folder remove it if you want to uninstall Bugs I know about: sometimes when you are using lightning into a doorway the animation may not show (or does my graphics card just suck?) I don't care if you want to alter this file and/or redistribute it, but at least rename it and include that it came from me and what you changed, ok? Questions / Concerns: Figure it out... its not rocket science. If you can't, look it up in the forum section.
