I don't think I've ever quite seen a map like this one before. From the name I was expecting a hangar full of X-wings. That's not exactly what we've got here, although "a hangar full of space ships" is moderately accurate. Not entirely, as the majority of the map is not a hangar.
So let me cut to the chase and explain what we've got. The first bit I saw was the factory. It's actually a very large and long room full of ships -- some of them in pieces -- being assembled. This is probably one of the coolest things I've ever seen in a map. One ship is getting a wing welded on, while another is getting the cockpit ready for assembly. As you explore further into the complex you'll see various other ships. There's one that seems to be on display, and it's bristling with weaponry (included some pretty wicked-looking rockets). In another room there are several ships being fueled, and in yet another room there's a ship hovering as if ready to take off. I hope it doesn't, though, because it's faced the wrong way!
There are at least three distinct designs portrayed in this map, and what I find most impressive is that all these ships seem to be made of brushes! I've seen impressive brushwork in the past but I think this probably takes the cake. They remind me a bit of the Nubian... on steroids. The Nubian didn't have any weapons, after all. The map itself also uses all custom textures. Yeah, all.
The strength of this map, beyond the very unique concept, is in the detail. From the detailed starships to the spinning ceiling fans to the scaffolding holding up the not yet attached wings of the ships. These are the kinds of details that make a good map a great map, and I'd say they really do their job here. Great map overall, and fairly big! Should keep players very interested.

5th January 2008 ================================================================ Map Name: Spacefighter Factory: Project Shadow Streak Author: Rudolf Wentzel (whitewolf or whitewolfw2) Email Address: email@example.com firstname.lastname@example.org Website URL: None as yet. Map description "Streak Precision Engineering, as a manufacturer of air and space defense vehicles, has constructed various factories and design facilities in which it produces its fightercraft. Since Streak Precision Engineering has initiated Project Shadow Streak, its most ambitious project to date, one such facility has been opened for inspection by certain individuals. We trust that you, as one of the individuals chosen, will enjoy your visit." This map has a history of evolution. It started life as a single player level when I was only new to mapping. Over the course of a year and a half, it has evolved from a single player level named "Yavin Outpost" to a multiplayer level, and the decision was made to use only custom textures, mostly made by me but some from other sources. Much work has gone into this project, and I hope that anyone who plays it will get something positive out of it, perhaps even be inspired, as I have been inspired by the work of others. Use Of Textures: The author, whitewolf, grants you permission to use the textures contained in the folders "rudolf_01", "rudolf_02" and "rudolf_03" for any non-commercial project. These textures have been made by me, and I reserve the right to ask you to remove them from your project if I deem it to be offensive. (use your common sense here.) I cannot grant you permission to use berneyboy's textures or the textures in the "external_source" folder, because I did make them, however they can be freely downloaded, see credits. You MAY NOT use the textures in the "rights_reserved" folder. Sorry. Credits: Three textures, (the wall texture and the two cola machine textures), were created by BerneyBoy, and are part of his photorealistic texture pack. BerneyBoy's website is: http://berneyboy.planetquake.gamespy.com/about.htm The readme for the "PhotoRealistic" texture pack can be found inside the zip file, in the same directory as this readme. The textures in the folder "external source" are from the web site: http://www.lynucs.org/index.php?p=screens They can be freely downloaded.
