Warbird's "Star Wars Universe" video is hurt not by its concept, which I really like, but entirely by its execution. The idea of creating a video to create an essence of Star Wars, or the author's point of view of it, is wonderful. I wish I had the time and ability to do it myself. The video consists of various assortments of shots and demos from JK3, Star Wars music, film trailers, game trailers, and the like. However, I disagree with the author's choice of arranging these scenes, even if I agree with the scenes themselves.
The scenes themselves are often the ones of which I really do think when I think of Star Wars, the spaceship battle scenes and specifically a few of the breathtaking scenes from "Star Wars: Episode III—Revenge of the Sith." Any reference to a movie clip always seemed to work well and fit in, and the same goes for some of the game trailer clips. However, where the video falls short is in the dragging recordings of someone playing a game. Sometimes we spend too long just staring at a game character slicing and dicing, and I really dislike the RPG fighting style of Knights of the Old Republic, even if the story is one of the best ever concieved for a game. At one point in the video, there came a pointless recording of someone using what looked like the JK2 Indiana Jones model firing a gun at a dormant Desann, and nothing really happened for a while; the character just kept firing.
What hurts the video the most is the inconsistent sound, which stops and starts and sometimes falls off track, and the short cuts of the video itself. We get through each clip of a Star Wars moment too quickly. I think that there should be slightly fewer clips, and let them spread out more, and also force them to fit to the dimensions of the video more proportionally.
These problems are all of the editing and direction of this video. I really like some of the content that the author chose to place in it, but I can't stand to see it fly by unproportionally and in such short clips, with screwy sound all the while. Warbird, you have the idea, but I guess that it's time to start looking for a better video editor.
*********************************** A Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy Video *********************************** TITLE: Star Wars: Universe AUTHOR: [DragoN].Warbird* E-MAIL: firstname.lastname@example.org WEBSITE: http://www.indiglo.boo.com FILENAME: Star Wars Universe.avi FILESIZE: 40,6 MB DATE RELEASED: 31 November 2005 FILE DURATION: 8:57 (it's not a joke!) CREDITS: I would like to give a credits to LucasArts/Raven Softoware/Lucasfilm and all companies related to the LucasArts, probably also 20th Century Fox or sort and all respective authors of files presented in this movie. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: Just unpack the archive and run the file. (Important! Since it's a XviD file I recommend to use Windows Media Player Classic or just select START->RUN and type mplayer2). DESCRIPTION: My point of view of Star Wars. An essence of SW, IMHO. Moreover: it's a compilation of few SW-game-based trailers + SW movie trailers + my own JK3 demos. PROGRAMS USED: Quake Video Maker, Camtasia Studio 3.0.1 and MS Paint :P BUGS: They are, for sure, but I didn't noticed them ;) It's depends from different point of view :) Shortly: no bugs. COMMENTS: Requirments: XviD 1.0.3 (Koepi's is the most efficient) or greater (if available). Tip: For improved video quality go to 'Configure Decoder' in your Menu Start shortcuts and check Deblocking (Y) and Deblocking (UV) (set them to on). Only do this if you have a decent comp. (I don't), otherwise you'll be experiencing some serious slowdowns (video faster than sound and vice versa).
